Yearly Training Hours: Over 500 hours in 2008, but I call it “riding” (not training).
Favorite Race(s):River Falls (WORS), Chippewa Valley (WORS), Pedal for Proceeds (Whitewater - WISPORT)
What do you like about cycling? The challenges and the scenery when off-road riding, the speed when road riding in a pack, the friendships I have made, and the health benefits.
What do you like about being on Team JVC? I like the camaraderie at the races and the group rides. Its fun being able to train and ride with people who are so much better than me. It keeps me motivated and helps me to continue to improve.
What racing achievement(s) are you most proud of? Coming back from back surgery (exactly one year to the day) to complete the 2004 Chequamegon Fat Tire 40 as the Captain of an off-road tandem with my wife as the Stoker in her first-ever Chequamegon race
- Finishing 2nd in the 2005 Chequamegon Short & Fat as the Captain of an off-road tandem with my daughter who was only 17 at the time (74th overall out of 850)
- Member of all three JVC/Michael’s Cycles WORS Division Championship winning teams (Overall Champions in 2006)
I am also proud of the fact that I have finished every race I have started (including 15 Chequamegon 40s, twice on a tandem) and have been able to continue to achieve my annual goal to get on the podium for my age/class at one WORS race (minimum) each year.
What individual racing goals do you have for 2010? Get on the podium again at a WORS Comp race
- Finish (or help a teammate to finish) in the top ten at a WISPORT race
- Get in, complete, and finish in the top 200 of the Chequamegon 40
- Ride at least 6000 miles (preferably most with my teammates and friends, and not by myself!)
